We will be playing "Variations on a Famous Theme by Paganini" by Ralph Matesky. Your assignment is as follows: 1) Watch the youtube video of Santa Monica High School performing the work in it's entirety. Read along with your part. 2) Choose one variation that you would like to cut. You may not just pick the hard ones (those are some of the most interesting). Pick ones that don't seem to be adding anything. 3) Vote on which variation we should cut*. This will count as a written grade. It is due by class on Monday. 4) Prepare the following for class on Monday. Theme, Variation 3, Variation 6, Variation 8. Also remember there will be a quiz on the Creston Fugue. *It is possible that we will do the whole work but cut many of the repeats. |
